Sunday, February 16, 2014 @ 11:17 PM Valentine's Day happened last Friday, which coincided with Total Defence celebrations at STC. The total defence celebrations were way cooler than what we had to endure back at SN; the students experienced outdoor cooking (they boiled vegetables, boiled eggs and maggi noodles etc), mass dances, lots of games and fun-filled activities...while back at SN we were given food ration cards and we had to switch off the fans in the classrooms for an hour. Who knew Total Defence celebrations could be this fun D:Valentine's Day must be bittersweet for so many of my friends this year - their boyfriends are bravely enduring their new lives in Tekong while the poor girls have to spend Valentine's Day without the company of their loved one. It's quite nice to see a lot of instagram photos of girlfriends missing their boyfriends and vice versa - it must be a wonderful feeling to love and be loved! I met one of my students on the bus on the way home from school and we alighted at the bus stop near the MRT station. While we were chatting on the way to the MRT she asked very innocently, "Miss Foo, do you have a boyfriend?" I laughed upon hearing her reply. She's so sweet :') This Valentine's Day wasn't shortchanged in love for me though. When I was walking along the corridor between classes or just walking to the canteen to get food, my students shouted Happy Valentine's Day Miss Foo and high-fived me :) I responded by high-fiving all of them back and hearing that loud "smack" which signifies a good high-five made it really awesome. I also spent it with Alicia, pigging out at 18chefs and eating all sorts of cheap but good food. |
