Sunday, July 21, 2013 @ 8:19 PM This is going to be a 4-part update as the past 3 days have been the most eventful and interesting for the whole year so far.Part 1: PHANTOM OF THE OPERA
My ticket and an after-show party pass
Definitely one of the highlights of the year. I was looking so forward to it and I was really excited when my mom's company had complimentary tickets for 3 people to watch it! I went with 2 other people to watch it on thursday (18 July), which was the premiere.
My dad was supposed to watch POTO with my mom and I but he had to go back to Shanghai the day before so my mom left the last ticket for me to decide who I wanted to watch POTO with. The decision wasn't easy and although I was really shy to ask the person I finally decided on (since it was really last minute), I'm glad I did (: It was a good investment of a few hours. The performance was amazing, acting was really convincing and the singing was really emotional. I have to agree that Act 2 was much better than Act 1 (maybe the performers were more confident? Idk.) but I was really impressed with the whole show.
I was also absolutely star-struck when I recognised so many celebrities. Even though it was premiere night I was not expecting so many celebrities. To name a few, I saw Hossan Leong, Yam Ah Mee, Jean Danker, Glenn Ong, Jade Seah, finalists from the Final One and the Flying Dutchman. There were many other celebrities but I couldn't really remember their names :X
Awesome night, wouldn't trade it for anything else.
Part 2: Indian Music Workshop (Part I - Kriti)
Senior and Junior Music Class at SIFAS for Indian Music Workshop (Part I)
The senior and junior class made our way to SIFAS near Farrer Park MRT for a workshop on Kriti music (as a supplement for our A Level syllabus). The workshop was really good and I felt that it was a very productive use of 2 hours as the teacher demonstrated the different techniques on the spot with the Tambura/Mridangam/his own voice. It helped the music class to finally understand how to differentiate between the different vocal/instrumental techniques and also learn more about the details of the structure of a typical Kriti composition. Really good stuff. Part 2 coming up next Wednesday!
Part 3: HWA CHONG MUSICAL NIGHT
All orchestras from HKMOY and Hwa Chong performing on stage
Yesterday was probably one of the most nostalgic nights I've ever experienced. I got to see my juniors, Hong Kong buddies we interacted with last year during the exchange trip in December and grand-seniors performing in this concert. I really miss playing in the ensemble together with the entire strings family. My JC life has revolved so much around the amazing friends I've made in HCSE I could not be more thankful for such a supporting group of people. It got kind of lonely after the concert though. Most of my friends went to say hello to the Hong Kong buddies, some talked to the seniors while others hung out with the juniors. I did say hi and congratulated some of the Hong Kong buddies after the performance but other than that everyone was really preoccupied with their own activities/ taking photos/ chatting with the seniors/juniors/Hong Kong buddies. Feeling very awkward and alone I decided to go home straightaway. I did wave to someone before I left but he didn't see so feeling more embarrassed I just walked out and left. It ended up being quite a sad night sigh but I have always been used to this kind of loneliness so I wasn't really angry. It's something I have come to terms with for many years. Part 4: TODAY There was supposed a gathering at Sentosa today and 10 of us were sponsored to watch Songs of the Sea and have dinner with the Hong Kong buddies! I was really compelled to go because I thought it would be really fun with the company of my friends but I decided to stay home and work on my piano and have some alone time by myself. The events from the past few days have made me think a lot. Usually thinking a lot builds up a lot of pressure in my heart (literally) and I get chest pains if I don't 'release' them. Thank God for blogs (: I find it funny how this blog post progressed from something positive to something really depressing as I end this post. I am so sorry to all those who still read this blog for having to deal with my consistently sad blog posts. There is only one reason that can account for the root of all this sadness. Only one person knows. |
